FLORENCE – A new and important recognition for Silvia Daddi of Mollica’s.

Silvia, who together with her husband Mattia Maracci is the owner of the legendary Mollica’s van and received the award yesterday, June 16th Corona del Marzocco, established by the Society of San Giovanni Battista which is awarded on the day of the Coronation of Marzocco on the Arengario of Palazzo Vecchio. Silvia was honored with a work from the Paolo Penko goldsmith’s shop.

The award, now in its third edition, celebrates young people who successfully talk about the culture, traditions and curiosities of Tuscany via social media. Silvia Daddi was given a miniature of the Corona del Marzocco, a symbol which according to ancient Florentine tradition is placed on the head of the Marzocco in Piazza della Signoria during the celebrations of Saint John the Baptist. This reproduction is made of golden alloy with the ancient technique of lost wax casting and finished by hand. As in the original, the crown bears the motto of the novelist Sacchetti: “Crown I bring for the worthy homeland so that everyone can maintain freedom”.

«This recognition encloses a journey that began years ago aimed at telling the story of Tuscany in all its beauty – comments Silvia -. The places, the food, the sayings, the ways of doing… I would never have thought that starting from Turbone, a tiny hamlet in the province of Florence, I would one day arrive in Palazzo Vecchio. All this would not have been possible if Mattia, my husband and adventure companion, hadn’t been beside me.”
