A concert by Etna artists, with great public participation, concluded the first day in thepedestrian area of Piazza Federico di Svevia and in the surrounding area Ursino Castle in Catania. A moment of sharing promoted byMunicipal Administration which marks the new life of the area. One of the most frequented by tourists due to the manor built by Frederick II of Swabia in the 13th century. Residence of the Sovereigns of Sicily of the Aragonese dynasty including Frederick III, today the seat of Civic Museum of the Etna city. With the much appreciated conduct of the comedian Gino Astorina, the group of The Lautari, Mario Venuti, Rita Botto, Eleonora Bordonaro, the orchestra of the Angelo Musco Institute directed by Daniele Zappalà. All artists who, together with Gino Astorina, accepted Mayor Trantino’s invitation to perform for the evening event.

Mayor Trantino after a brief greeting from the stage to the people who crowded and appreciated with applause both the performance of the artists and the decision to finally free Piazza Federico di Svevia from cars, announced that other musical events and cultural entertainment will soon take place in the Castello Ursino square to make the area increasingly lively and popular. “Let’s consider the summer period,” said the mayor, “one experimental phase which will help us understand the most suitable solutions to meet the needs presented during meetings with residents and traders. I want to remind everyone,” added Trantino, “that until yesterday wild parking reigned supreme here. Without any respect for pedestrians, whether they are citizens of Catania or tourists. The pedestrianization of Piazza Federico di Svevia must be seen as an added value for the city. As happened in other similar choices, in the end there is always a positive return. Aware as we are that this decision to regain livable spaces is an achievement for everyone”.
