Dvorak remembers Don Salvatore with the exhibition “Stop and listen” and a Mass in repose – MolfettaLive.it

Where you hear singing, stop: evil men have no songs (cit. Leopold Sédar Senghor).

Paladin of musical literacy against cultural illiteracy, the priest Don Salvatore Pappagallo was a visionary and prophet, a cultured and refined musician, a generous man, a passionate teacher, too ahead of his time. As a good father and teacher he showed the way to the young generations, he gave many of us the tools to live the profession of Music, he made us better, free women and men, capable of realizing part of his own dreams.

We miss you Don, this city misses you, those who were trained in your school of life and thought miss you, the young generations who got to know you through your stories, photographs and your music, fortunately partly recorded and published, miss you; your school, now “itinerant” but which resists thanks to the children, families and those who carry forward your educational and cultural message, free from political conditioning and any type of spectacularization, misses you.

Thanks to Don Salvatore’s dream, everyone in Molfetta encountered music, many have made it a profession even today: choir artists, orchestra teachers, opera singers, teachers in schools of all levels up to the conservatory, orchestra directors, musicologists, everywhere and always with him as a traveling companion. The memory of him, linked to the origin of our education, makes us rediscover today the meaning and essentiality of life.

This year, in the month of September, thirteen years after his death, the “Antonin Dvorák” musical cultural association will celebrate his memory with the third edition of the “STOP and LISTEN” review dedicated to young musicians from Puglia, in the seat of the Pontifical “Pius XI” Regional Seminar. It will be an opportunity to listen to the piano from his beloved school donated to the city of Molfetta and recently restored.

The June 19th a memorial mass will be celebrated at 3:00 pm 7.00pm at the Parish of San Pio X, the presence of all those who wish to remember him is welcome.
