Smartphone and drugs found in Avellino prison

There really seems to be no peace in the regional prisons of Campania. The Autonomous Penitentiary Police Union reports this, through the regional secretary Tiziana Guacci, who summarizes what has happened in the last few hours: “Moments of tension on Saturday afternoon at the Salerno prison where an inmate located in the section pursuant to art. 32 started a fire in his sleeping room. The supervisor and observation officer of the section immediately noticed that the cameras were not viewable due to a blanket of black smoke and immediately raised the alarm. Only thanks to his intervention and the General Surveillance and the other police officers who intervened, the inmate, who had barricaded himself inside the bathroom of the detention room, was made safe. Subsequently, a large piece of ceramic and the foot of the table were found under the mattress, which had been set on fire, as well as the grate placed above the entrance barrier of the desoldered cell. Late in the evening, the same prisoner, having returned to his overnight room, continued to carry out acts which disrupted order and security. Again in Salerno prison, on Sunday morning, there was a fight between inmates located in the promiscuous protected section”. Guacci reports that tension was high even in the Avellino prison: “Also on Sunday afternoon, the same inmate who had previously started the fire in his overnight room started a protest in the form of beating the railings, reporting that he wanted to change cells. The prison police staff tried in vain to bring the inmate back to calm. Subsequently he made the inmate leave the cell to take him to the parking room, and took away from the inmate some stones that he had with him. Once in front of the parking room, the inmate resisted, refusing to enter and suddenly attacked an intervening superintendent with slaps and kicks. On Saturday at the Avellino prison, during the ordinary search, two smartphones were found in two different detention departments, while in the room in front of the walkways of the department where the common prisoners are located, a large quantity of narcotic substance of the “hashish” type and a micro cell phone with its battery charger were found”.

“Sappe expresses its appreciation to the penitentiary police personnel on duty at the Salerno and Avellino prisons” concludes the trade unionist, “and hopes that the units involved in the events will be given a fair and deserved reward. Requests without delay the transfer out of the region of the prisoner responsible for the serious violence carried out at the Salerno prison. The cry of alarm and the request for urgent interventions to restore legality in the Campania prisons, ensure safety within the detention departments, and finally restore working serenity to the penitentiary police personnel who continue to work in undignified conditions remain unchanged”.

“We need to intervene quickly to protect the prison officers, the pride not only of the SAPPE and of the entire Corps but of the entire nation”, highlight Donato Capece, general secretary of SAPPE: “sThe presence of the State is evident, strong and evident, and cannot tolerate this widespread impunity, and urgent and effective measures are needed!”, concludes the leader of the first Blue Basque Union, who appeals to the leaders of the DAP to create the conditions “to restore order and security, truly implementing that zero tolerance towards those violent prisoners who, even in prison, are convinced that they can continue to commit crimes with absolute impunity!”.
