He wanted to secure second place, Lele Frignani’s UnipolSai. He did something more even if the icing was missing. Thanks to the mixed results of San Marino, beaten twice by bottom team BBC Grosseto, Fortitudo grabs the Titano team in first place (second for having lost two out of three matches in the first leg) and keeps the ambitious Parma at three detachment victories.
The icing is missing because, in the last match against Parma, Fortitudo beats more, but falls in a sprint, 3-2, with Maurizio Andretta who concedes the point to the Ducali, after captain Dobboletta and his teammates had managed to make an impact despite a poor start shock, immediately 2-0 for the guests.
The triptych with Parma ends with these results, 4-1, 2-1 and 2-3 and the awareness that Christian Mura, the leader of Fortitudo, has once again assembled a very respectable team, despite having a significantly lower budget in San Marino and Parma. The economic gap has widened further – already last year in favor of Titani and Ducali -, but UnipolSai can count on an excellent manager, Daniele Frignani, a first-rate staff (Fabio Betto and Claudio Liverziani above all) and a team that never gives up. And who, over the weekend, also got the better of ex Matteo Bocchi who, up until now, had always done very well.
Marc Civit grows on the mound, increasingly precious and determined. Two certainties remain, the Italians of all time, namely Filippo Crepaldi and Alex Bassani. And Eduar Lopez is also growing, waiting to know which foreigner he will be paired with. It won’t be Raul Rivero, because the legendary pitcher who won everything in the last ten years with Fortitudo, will only play in the playoffs, but for San Marino.
Having said that, on the field, the 39th birthday of veteran Francesco Fuzzi was also celebrated, Fortitudo can count on the usual Ricardo Segundo Paolini and on Eugene Helder who, in the batter’s box, knows how to command respect.
Filippo Agretti and Riccardo Bertossi do not disappoint expectations nor do the other foreigners, Francinel Martina and Yosmi Antonio Fernandez Flores, the young man who is performing in the best way possible as a shortstop. Ernesto Paolo Liberatore and Samuele Gamberini also performed well, becoming increasingly comfortable as a designated player. The impression is that with a couple of further additions, UnipolSai could defend the scudetto deservedly won a year ago even better. But even now Fortitudo knows how to assert itself.
