Bari, tourists walking from the airport even at night: “Few transport”

It’s past midnight, the plane has just landed, but there is no means of transport at the airport. Thus, tourists travel on foot. It happens in Bari, in particular in Municipality 5, where now almost every day, not only late at night, but also in the afternoon, both with very hot temperatures and with the cold, many tourists choose to walk along Via Gabriele D’ Annunzio, a road that connects Bari airport with the heart of Municipality 5, but also Municipality 3, to arrive at your destination rather than waiting for transport. This was reported by some B&B managers who, especially in recent times, have received several complaints from tourists who came to Bari to visit the city and then move to other areas of the Region.

From the lack of means of transport, to the poor efficiency, between delays and prices that are too high, in particular for taxis which, as some managers point out, “ask high prices for short journeys” up to the road in question, which is not suitable for pedestrians who have to extricate themselves from poor lighting, absence of paths dedicated to them and cars whizzing by at all hours. These are just some of the problems listed. “We’re desperate – said a B&B manager in the area – we’ve gotten used to it by now, we get ten on the reviews, but two and a half for the services because the services don’t exist. Many tourists come on foot because the means of transport are inefficient, especially in the evening hours. From 11.30pm onwards, there are no means of transport, especially taxis. If you find one, sporadically, he asks you exaggerated prices for very short stretches of not even 5 minutes. It’s a shame, we are saddened for our guests who are therefore forced to walk along a very dangerous road, where no one is watching. We are abandoned to ourselves,” he highlighted. Some of the managers, in an attempt to offer support to tourists, have started shuttle services, but this service is prohibited.

“The police have forbidden us to carry out the service – he explains – according to them we have to wake up at 2 in the morning, go and pick up the guests and not ask for even five euros in reimbursement. All this due to services that should normally be guaranteed. There is a lot of talk about Bari as a tourist city, but where? Services are lacking, tourists constantly complain and there are many of them, this year the season even started early. Allowing tourists to walk down that road is reckless,” she concluded.
