A tragic start to the summer season for Anzio and Nettuno. In fact, yesterday afternoon on the free beach near the Sirene seafront, in Anzio, a 66-year-old man, Alfredo Baccarini from Lanuvio, lost his life while he was at sea with his wife.
Despite timely rescue by the lifeguards of the bathing establishments, both were brought to shore in a few minutes but there was nothing that could be done for the man.
The Port Authority of Anzio and 118 were also on site. The death was probably caused by an illness.
The rescue
However, the adventure was resolved well for a man between 30 and 40 years old who was saved by three lifeguards on duty in various bathing establishments in Nettuno: Lorenzo Grande and Paolo Ruberti from the Sirene lido, and Davide Iannantuoni from the Salus lido.
Braving the rough sea and strong wind, as soon as they saw the man in difficulty they jumped into the water to bring him to safety. Ambulances, firefighters and local police immediately arrived on site, ready to provide further assistance.
The boy who was in a more serious condition was urgently transported by air ambulance to the San Camillo hospital, while the less serious one was admitted to the Anzio hospital. The third boy, after a positive resuscitation procedure on site, recovered.
Even the extraordinary commission of Nettuno, interpreting the feelings of the local community, expressed heartfelt thanks to the three lifeguards, recognizing their courage and professionalism: «An example of dedication and altruism that enriches and honors the entire community».
