TERAMO. The beginning of summer will mark another decisive step towards moving Enel’s primary substation to Cona. In fact, work is expected to start at the end of the month on the route of the high voltage line that will power the plant in its new location. The intervention, managed by Terna, should be completed within six months, allowing Enel to immediately complete the connection and activate the new substation that will bring electricity to the city.
The subsequent consequence will be the definitive dismantling of the improperly called power station which is still located in the center of the neighborhood, freeing up the area to be transformed into a square.
The details of Terna’s intervention will be illustrated to citizens on Wednesday, during a meeting to be held at 6pm in the auditorium of the Science Park. On that occasion, technicians and representatives of the company that manages the national electricity grid, together with those of E-Distribuzione and municipal administrators, will delve into the merits of the project which is part of the broader intervention to relocate the primary substation elsewhere. The new plant will be located in the area that runs along Via Cona, almost in front of the structure to be dismantled and which houses Enel warehouses. Here, work has already begun on the construction of the new cabin, which was initially supposed to be located in the Gattia district, much further from Cona, on land partly already granted to the zooprophylactic institute and which would have required even more time to use. longer than those already passed. The alternative solution therefore emerged of moving the cabin to the other side of Via Cona, with a transfer of a few tens of metres.
The project managed by Terna also underwent a change of direction. The objective remains that of burying the high voltage cables, but this type of intervention requires authorizations from the competent ministries which require three to five years. There was therefore a real risk of losing the funding allocated at the time by the Region through the Masterplan and which amounted to 2.5 million euros. For this reason, a temporary plan has been prepared which provides for the immediate construction of an overhead line, supported by the classic pylons, which will be replaced with the underground one as soon as the ministerial authorizations arrive. The intervention will cause inconvenience for residents in the area where the construction vehicles will pass, but will fully comply with environmental parameters and limits on electromagnetic emissions.
