With Italiano he conquered the coveted Serie A and then achieved a fabulous salvation in the top category. And today the former president Stefano Chisoli he always fondly remembers that wonderful adventure with Vincenzo on the bench. He did it again this morning on the pages of Il Resto Del Carlino, in which he explained what Ribera’s coach can give to the ambitious Bologna, who have qualified for the Champions League. Here are some excerpts of his considerations.
Chisoli’s words
On the experience at Spezia: “In October 2019, after a few months, we had lost five matches in seven days. The game was there, the results weren’t. We all met for dinner in a secret place in the hinterland, looking into each other’s eyes and motivating each other. The club gave a strong signal of trust to the coach and from there our journey towards Serie A began.”
On Italiano at Bologna: “It’s the right profile, it brings value wherever it goes. In Florence he went from salvation to the last day of three years in Europe. And now the Champions League. He is ambitious, he knows what awaits him and he finds a solid club: Pessina played on loan in Spezia, owned by Atalanta. We also liked Barrow the year before Bologna took him, so we asked Sartori if he could loan him to us. He told us no because he was interested in Gasperini, making a list of fifty players owned by the Nerazzurri, with life, death and miracles of each one, he had seen them all play. ‘See if there’s something that’s right for you,’ he said.”
