Bad luck in front of goal and the usual woodwork stopped Modica Calcio who, at home, fell to FC Pompei 2-1. At the end of the match the rossoblùs are left with the knowledge that they can go and play for maximum spoils, with a small dose of extra luck.
First half with two teams that immediately start strong and try to take the lead with maneuvered actions. In the 9th minute Modica took the lead with a great conclusion from Azzara which exploded the “Vincenzo Barone” and his fans who for the occasion demonstrated their attachment to the team with a majestic choreography. In the 29th minute Marino made a great save against Malafronte who started on the counterattack, but the assistant’s flag was still raised. In the 34th minute, another opportunity for the guests who try with a curling shot from outside by Caso Naturale, the ball just over. Two more minutes and Tarascio tries with a shot deflected by Alfieri, the ball displaces Marino, grazes the crossbar and goes out. In the 37th minute, a great opportunity for the rossoblu who start on the counterattack with Cacciola, the winger changes flanks sending Azzara to cross for Diop, the defender doesn’t reach the ball with the right coordination and sends it out from a few steps. In the 48th minute, a double miracle from Marino on Malafronte who missed the goal from a few steps away.
In the second half there were still intense rhythms with Pompeii looking for an equalizer and Modica trying to close it out definitively. In the 17th minute the away team equalized with Guarracino, who had entered a few minutes earlier and managed to head it in following a corner kick. Modica tries to manage his energy and find the right position on the pitch to push again, but in the 35th minute he finds himself behind with the goal from Caso Naturale on a curling shot which leaves Marino taken aback, blameless in the conclusion. In the 44th minute, a miracle from D’Agostino on Agodirin who hits the net safely from close range but doesn’t find the goal. The most important opportunity arrives in the 46th minute this time with Palermo trying for the Sunday goal, beating the goalkeeper but hitting the inside post which bad luck sends out.
“We didn’t demerit and the result is close to us, the boys gave everything and deserved more – declared Mr. Settineri at the end of the match – I feel like promising the city and the fans that we will go to Pompeii with the aim of reaching Serie D and not with the feeling of leaving defeated. The incidents didn’t help us today, but certainly, also on behalf of the team, I can say that we will go to their home to overturn the predictions.”
