Discovering the Gasometer between art and industrial archaeology. The youngest ‘monument’ in Rome and symbol of the Ostiense district – thanks to an agreement between the FAI and Eni, owner of the site – opens to the public on five occasions. The visits will be guided and free.

The five Sunday appointments will be held from June to November 2024 and they will be a unique opportunity to get to know the industrial site that stands out, inaccessible, over the Ostiense district. A 12 hectare site which also thanks to its monumental cylinder and with the name of former Officina San Paolo in the early twentieth century it produced and stored gas for Rome’s lighting.

The visit will guarantee knowledge of the past, present and future.

The Eni Gazometer Complex – reconverted to a vocation sustainable technology – now, in fact, host the Innovation District Road – Rome Advanced District, Joule – the Eni Business School, Zero – the clean-tech accelerator of the National Innovation Fund and “Eni 2050 Lab”.

During the guided tours, not only will the history of the area and the operation of the plant in the last century be retracedbut the environmental redevelopment project carried out by Eni and the experimental activities launched in the scientific, social and cultural fields will also be discussed, such as the recent collaboration with Spazio Taverna which led to the creation of the “Contemporary Energies” exhibition, first exhibition of 17 young emerging artists as part of the “Arte al Gazometro” exhibition.

In addition to the opening days, the site will also be visitable during major events such as Videocittà – the Vision Festival (from 5 to 7 July) And Maker Faire Rome – The European Edition (from 25 to 27 October).

The “Open Gasometer” initiative it will extend throughout 2024 for a total of 5 extraordinary openings, with special guided tours open to all and free.

Strengthened by the initiative that in the past led to the valorization of the Saline Conti Vecchi in the Assemini area (just outside Cagliari) in Sardinia, the collaboration with the FAI – Fund for the Italian Environment since 1975 has been renewed today, committed to the protection and valorisation of the Italian historical, artistic and landscape heritage, to promote knowledge of the Gazometer and its value for the history of the city.

The first visit to the Gazometro under the aegis Fai was reserved only for members of the Italian Environment Fund and took place on 2 June.
