A program for recall what once happened, that is the landing of two seaplanes of the Italian Maritime Aviation on Ticino. But something went wrong on the morning of Sunday 16 June during the seventh edition of the Battellieri Cristoforo Colombo trophyto Pavia. It’s about a barcé competition, the typical boats flat bottom tapered and long, suitable for facing the impetuous current of the Ticino.
At around 12.30 the two seaplanes, which left from Bresciano, successfully carried out the flight ditching maneuveror, but one of the two, orange, it was dragged by the current. It seems that the pilot, after having turned off the engine and attempted to attach the vehicle to the buoy, was unable to complete the operation. Meanwhile the seaplane turned and crashed into the floating house of the Colombo Boatmen company, association that has existed since 1885 named after the most famous navigator of every era.
The pilot and the co-pilot, husband and wifethey managed to quickly abandon the aircraft. The 51-year-old was injured in the foot and was transported to the San Matteo Polyclinic in Pavia with a suspected fracture, after being rescued by the staff of the Pavia Red Cross. Her husband was unharmed. Meanwhile the hydroplane, without a guide and dragged by the flow of the Ticino, was recovered by two boatmen, with damage to the wings.
