The Roman Theater of Ferento it is a splendid example of a theater from the Augustan age which is located a few kilometers from Viterbo. It stands along the Teverina provincial road, in the archaeological area of the ancient city of Ferento, which was the homeland of the emperor Marco Salvio Otone.
Destroyed by the people of Viterbo in 1172, during the wars between neighboring towns that characterized the medieval era, Ferento still shows its ruins today. Among these, the most interesting and best preserved element is the theatre 1st century AD.
For almost sixty years it has been home to an established summer season organized by Tuscia Theater Consortium and supported this year by the Ministry of Culture, Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the province of Viterbo and southern Etruria, the Lazio Region, the Municipality of Viterbo, ANCE Viterbo, Archeotuscia onlus.
The season of the Roman Theater of Ferento 2024 – fifty-ninth edition – offers a rich program under the stars, with performances of prose, dance and music. The program includes prestigious names from the Italian scene including Francesco Montanari, Emilio Solfrizzi, Paolo Crepet, Luca Bizzarri, Arianna Porcelli Safonov and many others.
