ART NOTES / IMPORTANT ACHIEVEMENT IN PIACENZA FOR DONATO CARLA’

(rp) ______ The three-person exhibition of painting, sculpture and graphics “FANTASTIC ARCHITECTURES AND ALCHEMICAL RESONANCES” DONATO CARLA’, MELONISKI DA VILLACIDRO, STEVE MAGNANI opens at ‘Biffi Arte’, in Piacenza, from 21 June to 11 September 2024.
Care, organization and presentation of the Art Critic Maria Palladino who deals with the three artists and who, regarding the Salento Carlà, writes:

Donato Carlà, an artist from Lecce, active particularly between the 70s and 80s, and then after the 90s, graduated from the Brera Academy in Milan, then obtained his specialization at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lecce. At first the favorite subjects of his paintings were Salento, the scenarios and situations of his places of origin, portrayed in a realistic manner, in a painting with earthy colors and bright luminism. Subsequently, the philosophical reflection on man and on the possibility that he has of knowing the reality around him, through his conventional and limited tools, led him to develop his own personal style which he defines as “metaphysical realism”: despite the precise attention to detail that brings him closer to hyperrealism, his language combines dissimilar and conceptually distant objects and situations in alienating and often ironic combinations. This is to stimulate questions about the preponderance of the rational element over the imaginative and creative one and vice versa; inciting the observer to question what surrounds him, apparently privileging the intellectual and Apollonian purity of speculative reasoning, the rational part of the human psyche, but in reality by doing so, putting this same aspect into crisis: we cannot say that what we experience with our senses, what is tangible, is the ultimate truth. The visionary faculty of the artist, through aesthetic pleasure and empathy, opens a breach onto other possibilities, which we can only intuit with our means, and which we are instinctively placed in front of, to realize at a first level, that the past and future, as well as space and time, are actually only our parameters. That something else exists, the fulcrum of everything, the noumenon beyond the phenomenon, to which, like truthfulness, we can only tend but never arrive; and perhaps it is in this continuous and constant search for knowledge that the genuine meaning of human life lies.”

An important milestone for Carlà, who continues his constant and meticulous pictorial research, receiving well-deserved and shareable appreciation, in the name of that ‘universatility of Art’, necessary for those who deal with painting, graphics, sculpture…
