They are the strongest class of 2008 in Lombardy: «When we have to fight we are unbeatable»

A common thread that has no end, a common thread that continues to do its job, a common thread that has now become orange. The continuity of the invisible thread is there and continues to be there: the class of 2008 of Alcioneafter a small glitch in the system last year, they beat Vis Nova 3-2 thus proclaiming themselves as new champions of Lombardy.

WHAT A REACTION

To recover from a shock we know that it takes time and it is not always so simple, but the kids at Marco Brunetti they reacted in a surprisingly aggressive manner: after 120 seconds they went one goal down, and after half an hour they reopened the match, subsequently going to the locker room with a one goal lead (2-1). «At the beginning we were in difficulty, we conceded the goal on a deflection, we were not very united and we got nervous. We looked for some long balls that aren’t our thing, because we don’t have this type of characteristic, it’s not the solution to the problems: we have to play football.” And Alcione played football, indeed he played.

TAKE BACK THE TROPHY

Raising the cup in the air is not a new gesture for the Orange team: two years ago, in the Under 14s, after having swept Ponte San Pietro with a resounding 5-0, they proclaimed themselves regional champions under the guidance of coach Calderoli, currently coach of the Under 15 Elite. Last year the title slipped by just a little, the thread got tangled and at the best of times a small knot obstructed the continuation of the writing of the story. After winning the championship, the boys reach the final as favourites, but Masseroni saw fit to trip and make the orange dream fade away. A dream so big that it is impossible not to desire it anymore: a dream that returns to its rightful owners on June 15th in Cavernago. «We are happy for the victory because we worked so hard. With the work of just one year, a final can be lost just like winning, episodes can turn in your favor or turn their backs on you, but what matters is that we were there, present. Apart from the first quarter of an hour where we definitely struggled, we slowly tried to get back to playing and in the end the result arrived. The boys were really good, they worked hard and applied themselves: it was a long, difficult journey but now we’re enjoying the party.”

THE REDISCOVERY

Coach Marco Brunetti took charge of the group after the bitter disappointment last June. The start of the championship was limping, then the boys, grinding out games and gaining confidence, got back on track: they gave everything and took great revenge. Finished third in the championship they became the only undefeated team in Lombardy and played their third final in three years, the second won in three years. «Undoubtedly we reached a point in the season where we were in a bad situation. In the first few days they butted heads, they struggled in matches with guys who were perhaps technically inferior to us but who had grown physically and who put strength in their legs. We simply needed to find our team and work as a united group: it’s a team used to fighting every match and just needed to rediscover itself.”
