MONTESILVANO. «Fly free little Aurora». It is written on the sign next to the bouquet of flowers that has stood out on platform 2 of the Montesilvano station since yesterday. Aurora. This was the name of the little girl from Montesilvano, still ten years old, who in recent days was preparing for the karate exam to obtain the orange belt. She had just finished school, she was thinking of the sea, of her Aurora’s holidays, the only daughter of a father who said goodbye to her on Thursday afternoon without knowing that she was forever.
Even Aurora didn’t know it as she went out with her mother Jeidi “for some errands” and instead found herself at the station, waiting for a train that would steal her life.
The following day, the tragedy of a mother and daughter hit by a Frecciarossa becomes the story of an illness, of an increasingly serious discomfort for which the 40-year-old Cuban was getting help, but which on Thursday made her fall into the black hole of his anguish, taking his beloved daughter with him. Hand in hand, as always. This is the scene described by the witnesses present around 6.30pm on Thursday, on platform 2, waiting for the various regional trains. They reported it to the Polfer policemen in tears, still in shock, because that woman, with the little girl next to her, had not given any sign of the desperation that she carried inside her and which she then made explode in that gesture without return. And hard, from all points of view, was the work of the Polfer policemen directed by the manager Aldo Luciani and coordinated by the prosecutor Paolo Pompato reconstruct a tragedy that left the city dismayed.
Who they were, and where Aurora and her mother lived, the police managed to reconstruct late on Thursday evening. They lived in Montesilvano, where the little girl grew up and her mother of Cuban origin settled alongside her Montesilvanese husband. The images from the station’s cameras are not clear, but they leave no doubt. From what has been reconstructed, they had arrived shortly before by car, which was found closed with all their personal effects inside. No ticket, no explanation. Mother and daughter get out of the car, enter the station and go up the stairs. At the platform the woman asks “when is the train coming?”. Then everything else. And that bouquet of flowers left the next day by classmates from the karate school Aurora attended until Tuesday. His coach tells it Emanuele Nicolosi, from the Karate sport center Montesilvano in via Verrotti: «Aurora had been coming here for two years, a cheerful little girl, a nine-year-old girl. She liked karate, she put a lot of determination into it and these days she was preparing for the exam on June 30th at the Pala Senna, to obtain the orange belt. Her mother always accompanied her, even on Tuesday she was here with her. She took it repeatedly, to her enhancement, always on time, even with payments. I never would have thought of an epilogue like this. She left us all shocked. Surely on June 30th, with her class, we will have a commemoration at the Pala Senna. And until Monday, while waiting to know the date of the funeral, the gym remains closed due to mourning.”
A closeness to the family that also comes from the municipal administration, with the mayor Ottavio De Martinis who immediately canceled the party scheduled yesterday for his re-election. «The sad and shocking news of the accident at the Montesilvano station has led us to cancel the celebrations». And “as a sign of deep condolences” he proclaimed the city’s mourning. The funeral, between tomorrow and Monday.
