“I have heard from some mothers and they are really worried because they are afraid of not finding a place for their children in a nursery.” Gianni Rolando, centre-right mayoral candidate in Sanremo, relaunches a highly topical social issue. In fact, in July the rankings for nursery schools in Sanremo and many children risk not finding a place due to the lack of public structures and an absurd regulation that dates back to 2008 and which no one has ever updated.
“This is a really important issue – says Rolando – because it has a significant impact on families and on work opportunities for women. It is certainly fundamental to increase the number of municipal nursery schools and this will be one of the priority commitments of my administration. But even the revision of a dated and incorrect regulation for inclusion in the ranking could help to guarantee at least a more fair and inclusive system. The mothers I spoke to ask me to create a single municipal ranking, where users can include more than one nursery school in the list of their preferences, unlike what happens now with the obligation to indicate only one preference”.
“This – they believe – could already facilitate access to services for families and reduce waiting lists by being able to better distribute the demand for places in nursery schools. A further demonstration – concludes Rolando – of how important it is to involve all interested parties in solving problems”.
