The foundation of “Kroton” told by children

On stage are the children of the nursery school of the Istituto Comprensivo Don Milani Crotone.

Different emotions on Friday 14 June at the gym of the Don Milani Comprehensive Institute.

In the presence of the Headmaster, Professor Maria Bellezzateachers and numerous parents, as usual, the end of the school year performance was held which involved the 5 year old children of the Bernabò nursery school.

The final performance entitled “Kroton” involved all the children who demonstrated their skill and spontaneity in dance, poetry, acting and singing. Who better than them could have, through various languages, told us about the foundation and history of our ancient Kroton?

The scenography, choreography, music, texts and costumes were chosen by the teachers after careful historical research; everything has been taken care of down to the smallest detail.

Against the backdrop of the Capocolonna Column, surrounded by imposing tripods and vases full of laurel, the children danced to the notes of Carmina Burana, with movements and poses harmoniously integrated with the music, evoking and celebrating evocative and ancient rituals.

Below, they took on the roles of characters who actually lived in our city: Miscello di Ripe, Milo, Pythagoras, Alcmaeon; but they also graced the stage as Pythia, Zeus, Hera Lacinia, Heros and Pollon, delighting the audience with ironic jokes and some dialect terms.

Poetry also saw the children engaged in the declamation of verses in which they paid homage to our beautiful Crotone and in particular to Madonna of Capocolonna. All together, they dedicated the song “Nera e bella” to her.

And to add a touch of fantasy they performed the cheerful song of Pollon, a joyful little girl from a famous and dated cartoon who lives on Mount Olympus and who ardently desires to become a goddess.

An original and particular final representation conceived by the teachers of the Bernabò complex which saw them engaged, for several months, in an educational project which thrilled themselves, but above all the children.

The project embraced all fields of experience for which videos, stories, books and images were used, more space was dedicated to drawing; the children represented the various characters of Kroton, the promontory and the column of Capocolonna using different techniques and materials.

All their works were displayed in a colorful exhibition set up in the school gym on the day of the final performance.

Lots of participation, emotion and joy on the part of the parents who, several times during the performance, expressed their consent with spontaneous and thunderous applause.

A valid didactic-educational project which saw children as protagonists of the history of Crotone starting from its foundation and interpreters of characters who gave it prestige: an important message aimed at children and adults to better know, respect and love our city!
