REGGIO EMILIA – A small masterpiece that saved his life. As soon as he realized the failure that had caused a loss of power in his 2008 Cessna, the expert 68-year-old pilot did not lose heart and managed to make a skilled emergency landing.
The single-engine plane was dropped on the edge of a vineyard in Villa Curta, ending its run sideways on a country road with the propeller stuck in the ground. Complicating the maneuver was the presence in the Via Pinotti area of a drainage canal that the brave pilot had to avoid at all costs.
It all started a few minutes earlier, around 8.05pm last night, when the Cessna 2008 was on its way back to base after a day of flights to transport the BFU paratroopers. Suddenly, the managers of the parachuting school from the hangar at Campovolo lost visual contact with the plane, while the pilot communicated via radio “the failure on board”. Moments of fear and tension, then the successful emergency landing, without even touching the screws. At the same time, help started from Campovolo but for the 68-year-old, after the visit from the doctors, there was not even a need for hospitalisation. The fire brigade also excludes the loss of fuel which is the greatest risk in these situations.
