Politics in Basilicata is strangely blocked awaiting the results of the Potenza ballot. It was all expected, with the opposition acting as a “spectator” waiting for the complete centre-right puzzle. President Bardi was clear when validating the elected representatives: let’s wait for the European elections and then we will sit down to give the region a new regional government. Declarations which, however, were not respected, because President Bardi, like the past legislature, must give account to the diatribes of the political forces that elected him.
The failure to elect Marcello Pittella as an MEP has complicated the situation for the president. Having granted the former governor’s request to have a place on the council (a hypothesis that would bring Laino into the Council), it remains to be seen whether and how the request to lead the post-deficit healthcare system will be satisfied. But it is above all the Potenza match that does not make president Bardi feel comfortable. The fibrillations within the Lega have been felt for days. The tricolor sash for the former councilor would certainly favor the picture. But it is the hypothesis of a possible defeat that upsets the plans. And this is because after an internal agreement among Salvini’s men, everything should be called into question. The agreement would in fact provide for the name of the former mayor of Potenza, Mario Guarente, in the new regional government. A dutiful recognition – at least in the party’s intentions – towards those who, despite being the candidate in pectore also indicated by the Roman leaders, accepted without a blow the step aside in the interests of the coalition. Therefore, a renunciation to be “rewarded”, also with the approval of Pasquale Pepe, the regional councilor who would be most qualified to sit in the new Bardi council at the Lega level. The former senator (not re-elected in September 2022 but awarded in his Tolve) would be the true architect of the agreement on Guarente, one of the reasons why Bardi also postponed the composition of the council. An agreement which – obviously – would go to pieces in the event of Fanelli’s defeat.
