Twenty-two new video surveillance devices have been planned by the municipal administration. The council, in its last meeting on 11 June, approved the technical-economic feasibility project. Specifically, two particularly sensitive and currently uncovered areas have been identified. This is the car park in via Pietri and the Marchionna district.

Video surveillance in the escalator car park

In the large parking area located under the Arezzo escalators, the installation of 16 cameras including one multivision which is capable of making 360° recordings. The council has in fact stated that “in Via Pietri, the main access to the city to the north, there is a car park which, due to its destination, requires the presence of very large numbers of people and the parking of vehicles completely unattended for many hours; also in relation to the The experience acquired over the years was therefore based on this feasibility study by providing, in places with a notable presence of people, context cameras which are a valid aid for the police since in case of need the sequence can be easily reconstructed of events;”. Here the Arezzo news also tells us about bad episodes of attacks by kids from a baby gang which has now been dismantled, but even in that case, having had the images of the public video surveillance circuit available would have facilitated and speeded up the search for those responsible .

Marchionna license plate readers

A different operation was instead designed for the Marchionna district, “which has a predominantly residential typology with few shops and no significant industrial or artisanal activity” writes the council in the resolution. Here the police forces have mainly received reports regarding thefts from homes, for this reason “in the peripheral neighborhoods the above devices (cameras) do not allow crime to be repressed as the images are sometimes not sufficient to determine the identity of the malicious and therefore preference was given to license plate reading devices capable of monitoring the main accesses in order to detect transits of suspicious vehicles;”

The choice therefore fell on the installation of 6 electronic devices for reading license plates of cars capable of controlling the access and exit routes from the neighborhood. All always connected to the city video surveillance system.

Amounts

The approved project allows the administration to participate in tenders to find funding and to proceed with the subsequent phases up to the tender for the award of the works themselves. The project currently has a total cost of 120 thousand euros.
