This week Fabio Troiano will go to discover Tuscany starting from the island of Giglio which, with its 21 square km of extension, is the second largest island in the Tuscan Archipelago: the crystalline emerald sea, with the rich and fishy seabed, make as a backdrop to a territory that is still largely wild and uncontaminated. Among the pearls of the place also the “heroic” cultivation vineyards, the picturesque Giglio Porto and the ancient Giglio Castello, a suggestive medieval village. The journey will continue with the botanical garden of Porto Ercole, a green oasis of important scientific value.
Livorno will then be the protagonist with its famous terrace overlooking the sea dedicated to Pietro Mascagni and with its historic Venice district. On this journey dedicated to the sea there will be stops in Versilia, with Viareggio, its Promenade and Villa Argentina, a great example of Art Nouveau style, and in Maremma with a boat tour in Talamone. Finally, Fabio will stop in the hinterland with the suggestive and ancient co-cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Sovana, one of the most important buildings in Romanesque Gothic style in all of Tuscany
Traveling companion as always is Emanuela Rosa-Clot, director of the Bell’Italia magazine, who reminds us how important it is to preserve the richness of our territory by virtue of its beauty. The director will speak from the fabulous Villa Farnesina, in Rome, showing us the loggia of Galatea, a room on the ground floor which owes its name to the fresco in which Raffaello Sanzio depicts the nymph Galatea, a sea divinity carried in triumph on a chariot shaped of shell pulled by dolphins, and around a party of tritons, cupids and nereids. The harmony and peace that Raphael was able to instill in a scene so rich in movement, between the twisting of the bodies and the intense expressions of the faces, never cease to fascinate.
