June in Pisa and new bus lines: “Neither promotion nor programming”

“The new bus lines are a failure and there is a lack of tourist planning beyond the Tower.” The attack by the group leader of La città delle persone Paolo Martinelli on the topic of city tourism is harsh. The day after the press conference of the tourism councilor who presented the 2025 tourism promotion campaign “Where is the Tower?”, Martinelli complained about the two elements which in his opinion define “the approximation of the Conti council regarding programming and tourist planning”, placing the emphasis on “how little the attractive potential of our city is exploited, continuing to think that we can live off the flow of tourists towards the Tower”. The first point is the failure to publicize the bus service of the two new lines, the Navetta dei Lungari and the Sesta Porta/San Rossore line. “Alderman Dringoli, who in the council of 13 June brought a topic entitled ‘reporting to Pisamo and Autolinee Toscane of the very low turnout on the Lungarni line’, the first of the two new lines to have been introduced in addition to the reporting for the manager’s corporate skills – continues the group leader -, as if the Municipality had to do nothing to advertise the service, we believe that it is important to make such a strategic investment paid by the citizens bear fruit”. Martinelli then spoke about the poor promotion of June Pisa. “Federalberghi, while appearing satisfied with the tourist flows for the start of the season, denounces – in the investigation by La Nazione di Pisa published three days ago, ed. – that the attractiveness does not depend on the events of June in Pisa, speaking of a promotion still not very effective, especially abroad. For June in Pisa, the key month of our city’s historical events, an adequate promotion campaign was not designed that would use it as an attractive driver outside the city limits”.

The group leader defined the administration’s approach as “approximate and provincial”, underlining that “we cannot be satisfied with daily tourism, concentrated only in a few central streets and completely unaware of the city’s varied museum and cultural offering. Real planning and take on a coordinating and directing role, so as not to make the city increasingly silent and sleepy”. Martinelli finally attacked the administration, explaining that they are “more inclined to close gates and spaces, as done with the Leopolda, rather than valorising the vital energies that Pisa, a city of culture and aggregation, could express”.
