Lombardy: concerts in popular neighborhoods, stop in Milan

Stop in Milan today for ‘Unusual Places, Extraordinary Shows: Neighborhoods in Concert’, the event with which the Lombardy Region brings great classical music to the suburbs. After the debut at the beginning of the month in Bergamo, the new event is scheduled for the Gratosoglio district of Milan, at the Parish Church of Santa Maria Madre della Chiesa which will host Musiche dal Mondo with an afternoon concert, organized by the I Piccoli Orchestra Pomeriggi Musicali, dedicated to young people and families, and an evening concert by the Pomeriggi Musicali Orchestra, to offer a unique cultural experience, involving citizens and bringing people closer together through the beauty and communicative power of music. The initiative brings classical music to non-traditional places, to involve, bring closer and fascinate residents with the music of great composers. The neighborhoods of the suburbs become agoras, transformed into concert halls, places of sociality and sharing, where music can express its wonderful universal language and its ability to encourage aggregation and public participation.
The I Piccoli Pomeriggi Musicali Orchestra – made up of around 60 young performers aged between 7 and 17, coming from the Milan Conservatory and other city music schools and academies – offers some musical pieces that constitute a great sound fresco from different countries and cultures . Alongside pieces by “classical” composers such as Tchaikovsky, Bizet and Bartók, who used traditional music for their most famous works, the program includes many original melodies from all over the world, from South America to China, but also gospel songs and pages from the Middle East.
The I Pomeriggi Musicali Orchestra was founded in Milan in 1945 and was the first to organize an activity for the public after the war. It was created to offer pages of the classical repertoire and to contribute to the popular dissemination in Italy of the music of the greats of the twentieth century. He has never lost this vocation and, thus, often plays not only at the Teatro Dal Verme but throughout Lombardy, proposing alongside famous works such as those by Rossini or Bartok, rarer works such as those by Grieg, Ravel and Reich , which will be performed on this special occasion.
‘Unusual Places, Extraordinary Shows. Quartieri in Concerto’ is an experimental initiative that aims to be a cultural welfare tool for the community, promoted by the Lombardy Region in collaboration with the Aler (Lombardy Companies for Residential Building) of Milan, Bergamo and Varese and the I Pomeriggi Foundations Musicals, Giuseppe Verdi Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Choir of Milan and the Teatro alla Scala Academy of Arts and Crafts.
