La Spezia, 16 June 2024 – He fought for six weeks but never recovered from the severity of the clash. He passed away at the age of 81 Gianfranco Gianardi who last April 29th had been hit by a vanand on the service road of viale Fieschiin correspondence with the portico right under the distincts sector of the “Picco” stadium.
In the moment of great pain, his son Simone wanted to express heartfelt thanks to the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital on behalf of his entire family.Sant’Andrea hospital in La Spezia starting from Dr Andrea Derchi. “A great professional – wrote Simone Gianardi – who every day, with immense delicacy, tried to lead us through the intricate labyrinth in which the paths of life and those of death intersect.
And through the name of the director of the facility, Dr. Cinzia Sani, to whom I kindly ask to involve all the remaining staff in my heartfelt and warm thanks. I would particularly like to say thank you to all those who were present in the most extreme moment, for the tact, comfort and closeness they were able to demonstrate to me, making me experience first-hand the profound meaning of their terrible and irreplaceable service.”
The elderly Gianfranco Gianardi was on foot when he was hit, in the early afternoon of Monday 29 April near the city stadium, by a van that was reversing. To allow the Public Assistance rescuers to intervene, the help of a fire brigade team was also necessary. After long treatments in the resuscitation and intensive care department, the man passed away in the La Spezia hospital. The family members wanted to extend a thought to all the hospital staff.
«I want to do it especially today – continued Simone Gianardi – in days in which there is a lot of talk about public health. We were able to see first-hand how much all the medical and healthcare personnel of the Italian public health system deserve institutions that know how to reward and recognize a level of training and qualification of absolute excellence, guaranteeing everyone, and always, the ability to operate in a structural context that allows to fully express all human and professional potential”. The date of the funeral has not yet been set. In fact, the family is still waiting for the authorization from the magistrate called to evaluate the opportunity of any medical-legal investigations.
