A few days until the works begin: the start is expected by the end of June. Piazza Giotto is about to change its appearance thanks to a million and a half investment through Pnrr funds. “The purpose of the renovation – we read in the description of projectpresented to the city last February – is to have a versatile square with a multifunctional use: from the churchyard, suited to the presence of the church and the faithful who frequent it, to the local market, from the Christmas markets to a play space in the period winter”.

For these purposes, the new composition is divided into three macro areas distinct but in dialogue: the first is the square-parvis, the second is the central square, the third is the square-path that connects via Lorenzetti and viale Giotto, up to the Sandro Pertini park.

“We wanted to pay the utmost attention to the liveability of a place that has always been a point of reference for many people, in a residential and populous neighborhood – commented the councilor for public works Alessandro Casi. Valuable materials such as travertine will be used for the flooring, while the benches and almost all the trees will be maintained, as requested by the citizens. Fountain removed.”

The presence of green it will serve to delimit the interior of the square from the built external space. Filter beds, flower beds and tree-lined scenes are provided. The plan includes the recovery of the current flowerbeds, where there are lime and plane trees, the demolition of the existing walls and the reconstruction of new borders. In total the project provides 1400 square meters of permeable surface between greenery and draining paving, 11 new tall trees were planted while 16 trees were cut down, as they were not part of the intervention. The flower beds will have a total surface area of ​​approximately 50 square metres, with the addition of approximately 110 roses and 50 evergreen bushes.

In the center of the new square, integrating the new one lighting public, three “trees of light” will be inserted, with a refined scenographic effect. Consistent with the new design composition, a seating and storage system will be defined furnishings coordinated with the main architectural design.

Already announced in recent months the move of the Caritas canteen which will move to the Piave barracks, in via Garibaldi, according to a specific municipal plan shared with the Diocese. The execution of the works was awarded toImpresa Zambelli srl of Forlì Cesena, which has already taken care of the repaving of Piazza Grande in the city and the construction of the boulevard in via Guido Monaco.
