the centrality of Il Tirreno marble promoted

CARRARA. «Carrara has always produced beauty. The peculiar look of this beauty often flies away. Architects, planners, designers ask to create works here and then these works fly away. So the idea was to return home.” These were some of the words with which the curator Domenico Raimondi together with the mayor Serena Arrighi and the councilor for culture Gea Dazzi wanted to inaugurate the White Carrara 2024 event, Design is back, the most awaited event from the music stage in Piazza Gramsci .

The objective of bringing citizens and tourists closer to knowing the works that are the protagonists of a design process seems to have been achieved, since 7pm yesterday there was a real crowd. There was so much curiosity, some were not entirely aware of the nature of the event, but then they got carried away.

Among those present were the commissioner Santi Allegra, the commander of the Company Lieutenant Colonel Cristiano Marella, Don Piero Albanesi surrounded by families, but also some personalities from Versilia such as the architect Tiziano Lera together with his wife Nita Salvucci.

A heterogeneous crowd that was also particularly fascinated by the rhythm of the musical performance of the five musicians of the Rusty Brass Band in a Total White dress code.

At the end of the inauguration they started playing again and led part of the crowd to explore the artistic journey that is already giving light to the city. There are also many expectations from traders, we listened to some of their impressions. For Francesco Bajini of the historic bookshop in via Verdi, we have returned to the origins and the first impressions are positive: «We have returned to marble, to the true identity of the city».

Even the owner of the Doretti perfumery is satisfied with the first effects of the event: «The installation is beautiful, an event like this was needed in Carrara, a return to the most precious material in the city».

Don Piero Albanesi is of the same opinion: «These events are welcome, maximum openness to art and experimentation, in this period it is not so easy to create culture».

In Piazza Alberica many people of all ages were admiring the installations, in particular a visually impaired gentleman with his wife remained to explore the Anna G. work by touch, the well-known corkscrew, an icon of design par excellence.

The exhibition will remain open until 29 September and is promoted and produced by the Municipality of Carrara in collaboration with Internazionale Marmi e Macchine CarraraFiere SpA and Nausicaa SpA, in partnership with the North-West Tuscany Chamber of Commerce, with the patronage of the Tuscany Region and the contribution from the Marble Foundation.
