«The latest updates this morning – explains Umbria Meteo – from the American Gfs model predict, for the second half of next week, the first intense heat wave of the summer which will mainly hit central Italy. In the afternoon/evening of Thursday 20 June, isotherms of up to +27°C are currently hypothesized at 1,560/1,580 meters above sea level in the Terni area with Afro-Mediterranean high pressure centered on Italy. For the duration of daytime sunshine and beyond, this could mean having maximum temperatures around 40°C in some city centers in Umbria, Terni first and foremost. The only mitigating factor will be the presence of dense vegetation this year. The heat wave will last a few days, from June 22nd temperatures will drop again, but it seems to be quite intense.”
Perugia Meteo underlines that «the arrival of very intense African heat is looming, with highs of 8-10°C above normal (yes, in June the average of the second decade does not see highs equal to or higher than 30° C), with a heat wave that will also last for at least 4-5 days in our region. But it is not certain that at the end of next week, temperatures will drop significantly, we will see how the situation will evolve, which will also be characterized by sandy skies and increasing humidity levels. In Umbria the maximum temperature will reach 40°C”.
