The ‘PalermAbility’ demonstration against the social marginalization of people with disabilities took place this morning at the Petrazzi Garden in via Pietro Scaglione. Present were, among others, the mayor Roberto Lagalla, the president of the city council, Giulio Tantillo and the councilor for social activities, Rosy Pennino.
The project, placed in the first three places out of the ten presented at a national level on the sidelines of the Inclusive Suburbs Fund, was financed by the Ministry for Disability and was carried out in co-planning with previously selected third sector bodies. “This – states councilor Pennino – aims to bridge the social distance to which people with disabilities are too often forced, living in a situation of social marginalization in their own territory”.
There will be over 200 people involved who, together with their families, will be engaged in recreational and educational activities, without age limits, which will range from swimming courses, athletics and other sports disciplines to activities related to the care of greenery, the redevelopment of common spaces, such as gardening courses or activities in the garden and with animals.
“This is a truly remarkable result for Palermo and the citizens linked to the world of disability – continues Rosi Pennino -. The ‘PalermAbility’ project has been recognized as one of the most valid in all of Italy, so much so that it received funding from the Suburbs Fund Inclusive. Thanks to the work of the operators, the institutions and the men and women of the Department that I have the honor of directing, Palermo is today one of the cities in Italy on the front line in support of people with disabilities and all too often excluded from their natural and dutiful social role”.
