Eight classrooms for teaching, three for administrative offices, a library room and a computer laboratory. It is the new equipment of block A of the Duni classical high school in Matera delivered today to the historic school of the capital by the President of the Province of Matera, Piero Marrese, also present the regional councilor of the PD Roberto Cifarelli, the vice president and municipal councilor of the city, Emanuele Pilato, the director of the Provincial School Office, Rosaria Cancelliere, the school director Patrizia Di Franco, the president of the Provincial Student Council, Sanya Bonelli, and the city civil and military authorities.
Extraordinary maintenance works were carried out on block A, contracted by the Province of Matera, aimed at guaranteeing usability and the right to study following a structural adjustment for an amount of one million 250 thousand euros financed by the Education Ministerial Decree 13/21. In detail, reinforcement work was carried out on the load-bearing structure and attics, the energy class of the building was improved with roof insulation, external coverings, new external fixtures were installed, the heating and air conditioning systems were redone, as was the electrical system.
“This is an important milestone for the Province of Matera – declared Marrese – given the complexity of the intervention and the historical value of Duni. Also in this case, in synergy with the Technical Office of the Province, which I thank, there was teamwork and my personal attention, as well as continuous dialogue with the school. From September, therefore, students, teachers and administrative staff will be able to return to block A while waiting for block B to be completed: we have managed to find the resources to intervene on this part too and the work will begin in a few weeks. The goal we are working towards is to return the entire school to students and teachers, including the gyms. Thanks to the vice president, Emanuele Pilato, to the territorial councilor Carmine Alba and to the school director for the fruitful collaboration”.
Regional councilor Cifarelli recalled that “this high school is extraordinarily important for Matera and for the history and identity of this city, since Giovanni Pascoli taught there. For this reason it deserved all the attention and commitment of the institutions to find the optimal solution, which would make it a school worthy of a European capital city of culture”.
The manager of the Regional School Office, Chancellor, drew attention to the fact that “in recent years the Matera school, not only in the city but in the entire province, is regaining its identity, making the spaces available to students. they need. This must therefore represent a moment of joy, because the schools that presented the most critical issues in terms of construction are becoming available again to the community in many municipalities, thanks to the commitment made by President Marrese”. The head teacher Di Franco was also very satisfied: “We are very happy to start returning home, it is a return we have been waiting for for a long time. It’s a great emotion. The classrooms are very beautiful, we will finally also have some laboratory space. We can only thank the Province of Matera and President Marrese for giving us back part of the building and continuing to work to restore the rest of the structure”.
