This weekend at the Scolacium Park two events to celebrate the European Archeology Days which, like every year, take place in the third weekend of June
Since 2010, the Ministry of Culture in France has entrusted Inrap, the National Institute of Preventive Archaeological Research, with the coordination and promotion of the National Days of Archeology (Journées nationales de l’archéologie or JNA).
In 2019, the JNA (Journées nationales de l’archéologie, or national archeology days) opened its doors to Europe. Eighteen countries participated for the first time; since 2020 the days have been called European Archeology Days (Journées européennes de l’archéologie or JEA).
The Scolacium National Archaeological Museum and Park – together with the Calabria Regional Museums Directorate – has also joined the project, proposing two events for Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th June, both at 6pm.
Saturday 15 June will be dedicated to the meeting “Culinary arts, traditions, recipes and curiosities on the table of the ancient Romans” – curated by Park officials Valentina Montesano and Natasha Sorrentino – which will be followed by a themed workshop dedicated to the little ones (the workshop requires reservation, as there is a limited number of places).
On Sunday 16 June the event “Let’s dismantle the theatre” will be a meeting intended to deepen knowledge and stimulate a new debate on the Roman theater of Scolacium, a more complex monument than it appears.
The appointment will see the intervention of the Park Director Dr. Elisa Nisticò and, after a phase dedicated to the on-site viewing of the remains of the theatre, a reconstructive diorama of the theater on a 1:50 scale will be presented for the first time, curated of the Arch. Vincenzo Dornetti.
