The former mayor of Viterbo was present this morning at the ribbon cutting for the new Melvin Jones park, in viale Capocci and took the opportunity to publicly give his certificate of esteem to the administration, but in particular to the mayor Chiara Frontini, present alongside he.
This is probably the first time this has happened, particularly in a public context.
Gabbianelli did not stop at simple compliments, but also expressed a wish, starting from 20 years, the age of the park inaugurated when he was at the helm of Palazzo dei Priori.

“I don’t want to nail Chiara to this role for another twenty years – said Gabbianelli – but I can express a wish. That in twenty years there will be a mayor with the sensitivity and care for the city that Chiara Frontini currently has and is demonstrating despite the difficulties, together with her administration.”
The project for the new park started with the Michelini administration in 2018, then financed by Arena mayor. But it included paving and less greenery than what is now the final result, as modified by the current Frontini administration.
Paths, protection of tree roots, new essences are part of the recovery.
“We are inaugurating this new version exactly 20 years after the opening of this space – said Frontini, cutting the ribbon – we wanted to get together all together, those who were there twenty years ago and those who are there today”.
Then, the then mayor Giancarlo Gabbianelli, the president of the Viterbo Lions Club Luigi Pasqualetti and the current Francesco Cima, Paola Massarelli, president of the Admo. In the garden there is a monument, which as Massarelli recalled, is not in memory of, but dedicated to those who are there and to those who give, in the spirit of the bone marrow donors association. Also present were councilor Emanuele Aronne who coordinated the intervention together with manager Loriana Vittori.

Even the date chosen to reopen the new park is not random.
“It was June 15, 2004 when the park was named in memory of the founder of Lions Clubs International Melvin Jones – recalls Frontini – after an intervention to enhance and redevelop the green space wanted by the administration at the time”. With the opening of the green area, the Admo memorial stone was placed.

A refurbished park that has the “approval” of those who cut the ribbon two decades ago: “I must recognize – said Giancarlo Gabbianelli – that the revisiting of this park is of great value, a real garden”.
