How much does the tourist tax cost me? With the closure of schools, the bathing season comes alive, weather permitting, and will see the first tourists arrive in the accommodation and non-accommodation facilities of the province. In addition to the rates for overnight stays in B&B hotels, campsites, guest house residences, campsites and other reception facilities, tourists will also have to pay the tourist tax which practically all tourist locations have applied.
There is no uniformity in the application of the tourist tax, a tax that can only be established by provincial capital municipalities, by unions of municipalities, by municipalities included in the regional lists of tourist resorts or cities of art and by those which have their legal headquarters in the smaller islands or those in whose territory there are smaller islands.
In our province we go from one extreme to the other. From Andora, which has waived the application of the tax, to Savona which has the highest rate for almost all categories: 5 star hotels 4 euros; 4 stars 3.50 euros, 3 stars 3 euros, 2 stars and farmhouses 2.50, 1 star and any other accommodation facility, excluding campsites 2 euros. For campsites it is 1 euro (then there are caravans and campers in the campsites continuously).
In recent weeks, following a letter from some B&B managers, the Municipality said it was available for a discussion on the tax and that it had left open its willingness to review the amount of the tourist tax in September, after an assessment of the summer season.
In other municipalities with a predominantly tourist economy such as Alassio, Albenga or Finale, the rates are lower. For example, in Alassio the prices range from 50 cents for 1-star hotels to 1.50 euros for 4-star hotels and above. For non-receptive structures such as inns, guest houses, farmhouses, Bed & Breakfasts, period residences, holiday homes and apartments, furnished apartments for tourist use it is 1 euro. Rates in Albenga are also lower than Savona, maximum 1.5 euros for 4 stars and above; The final. Ditto for Loano (1.50 from 4 stars and above and for holiday homes, B&Bs, guest houses 1 euro with the exception of those in the port structure at 1.50 euro) and other seaside resorts in the eastern Savona area.
The tax is generally applied to a maximum of 5 consecutive nights in the same accommodation facility. Each Municipality also provides for exemptions, which vary from one local administration to another but which generally concern, for example, children, disabled people, family members of people who go to healthcare facilities.
