Everything is ready for the mega evacuation almost half a million people. Seventy-two hours to escape from Phlegraean Fields – by train, bus or ship – in case of disaster.
The population, according to the plan, will be transferred to the twinned regions. The citizens of Pozzuoli will go to Lombardy, “those of Bacoli between Umbria and Marche, Monte di Procida between Abruzzo and Molise, in Lazio the residents of the Neapolitan neighborhood of Fuorigrotta”, we read in an article in The Republic.

The volcanic risk in the territory above the caldera in reality, according to experts, it is not even remotely concrete. And the phenomenon of bradyseism it is of a different nature than the hypothesis of an eruption that would trigger an unprecedented national emergency plan, we further read.
“It is important to distinguish. Today we are experiencing the bradyseismic crisis which does not involve mass evacuation, but the possibility of implementing resilience processes and that is what we are doing”, he explains to The Republic the mayor of Bacoli Gerardo Josi Della Ragione. “For the volcanic risk we are working in synergy with the regions and other institutions also to improve escape routes: we hope that the government will give us the resources”.

Today the Campi Flegrei volcano is at lyellow alert level. Going up to the orange alert, the hospitals would be evacuated, with the red – foreseen in case of “phenomena that indicate a pre-eruptive dynamic” – you would have 72 hours to move 481 thousand people.
“The national plan will be tested in October, with the major exercise on volcanic risk prepared by civil protection. Each area of the territory concerned, which includes Pozzuoli, Quarto, Monte di Procida, Bacoli, some neighborhoods of Naples and part of the municipalities of Marano and Giugliano, is combined with an Italian region, each of which must draw up its own plan. The device must identify the first reception points, accommodation, health care and guarantee services such as health care, administrative and scholastic continuity”.
