Rovigo. The Regina Margherita hotel closed again: «We decided reluctantly»

ROVIGO – Less than three years after the change of management, the historic shop has closed its doors again hotel restaurant Villa Regina Margherita. There Lucchin management it lasted from 2000 to 2021, that one Focarini from August 2021 to the end of May. «We had asked several times for the work to make the electrical system safe to be carried out, but despite our requests, this did not happen – he explains Diego Focarini, manager of the Regina Margherita – we could no longer work in an environment that was not up to standard. This is why we decided, reluctantly, to close everything.”

It was the beginning of August 2021 when the Focarini family reopened the hotel restaurant, which they had taken over from Remigio Lucchin (for over twenty years at the helm of the restaurant and hotel), at the end of April of the same year, bringing back the name Villa Regina Margherita also at the restaurant, after for years it had been Le betulle (the name of the restaurant du Lucchin when it was in Pontecchio). «We had no other choice, unfortunately – now the ball passes to the owners, that is to say to theImmobiliare Tecnica Srl of Guerrato».
In the Art Nouveau building, located in the avenue that gives its name to the hotel, important restoration works have been carried out over the course of these two years: first on the outside and then on the inside. However, it was not just a simple repainting, but a truly complete renovation, decided by the Focarini family. It has always been one of the meeting points of the historic center of Rovigo, complete with collaboration with the Cariparo Foundation, Palazzo Roverella and Palazzo Roncale on the occasion of the most significant exhibitions, which have always led numerous tourists to book the rooms of the former Bologna hotel. The Regina Margherita is made up of 20 rooms, internal parking, taxi service, cars for ceremonies, wellness program, cooking school, personal shopper. Plus a panoramic terrace where you can dine and relax.

PROJECT SLOWED

Diego Focarini, a young entrepreneur from Rovigo, said no later than the end of August 2023 that he was ready to bet on the tourism revival of the city. His idea is to create the “Rovigo hotel” project, which would allow him to have the most famous hotels in Rovigo, among those remaining, given that Granatiere and Corona Ferrea are no longer part of this list. Now this ambitious project must necessarily be revised.
«I am continuing with the activity at the Europa Palace (where among other things a pizzeria/grill restaurant was also opened at the beginning of the year, ed.) and now, since we are now in summer, I am focusing on Palazzo Rosso, another bet of mine, which despite being in Polesella, has always been recognized by the people of Rovigo as a sort of “holiday village” of the city. As for the acquisition of the Capital hotel, the timing is a little longer than the others. I am very sorry for the Regina Margherita, given that the historic 1900 villa has been completely renovated inside, in particular the heart of the hotel, i.e. the restaurant, with in addition the renovation of the various halls.”
The closure of the building follows that of premises along the street and in the connected Via Umberto I.
