“The debts are too high. The club cannot save itself”

Legnano (Milan) – «The Legnano he is swamped by debt and in my opinion the possibilities for Aeneas Benedetto to save him are zero.” Stefano Vercellottiformer team manager of Legnano calcio, recites the de profundis of the historic lilac club and does so with data in hand after the president himself in recent days indulged in the figures of default: “Only over three hundred thousand euros”. «In reality – explains Vercellotti – there are many more debtsI think around at least double what the president declared.”

There are unpaid salaries to footballers, some gone for months whose compensation was never honoured. Then four coaches who had terminated their contracts during the current season. In addition to this, requests for payment are also arriving for rent as early as 2022 and last year. “Enea signed without even seeing how much the actual debt was, which should have been around 40,000 euros for four months.”

This money alone is worth around 150 euros. In addition to this money, others have been added which currently make the situation of Legnano football more than problematic. Now everything leads to failure, also because the same shares of Enea Benedetto were seized by the investigating judge of Alessandria for a line of investigation concerning Alessandria Calcio, of which the owner of the Lilacs was previously president. «If we end up bankrupt, it won’t be my fault, because I haven’t made a single euro of these debts, in fact I’m paying them off. The responsibility lies with the previous ownership and we are trying together to find a solution”, explained Benedetto.

But the solution does not exist: with the seized shares it cannot be sold and it is not possible to reach an agreement with the municipality for the management of the stadium. A sort of freezing which is also accompanied by another factor of no small importance: if an agreement were to be reached for the sale of the club, according to what was declared by the current top Lilac manager, the previous president, namely Emilano Montanari, could do assert rights on the assignment. In fact, he has the final say on a possible new transfer of ownership by virtue of agreements that would have been made between the two at the time of the club’s change of hands on March 14th. “I don’t see how Legnano can do it – admitted Vercellotti -. I had reached an agreement with the players at 47% of the amount due, but no one ever called the players who were still waiting for money before signing the releases. They had to be called by the team’s lawyer a company that obviously didn’t even pick up the phone.”
