PESCARA. As promoter of the referendum for the birth of New Pescara, Carlo Costantinidefeated in the last local elections, is already looking to the 2027 vote, when the merger will become reality, “provided there is no further postponement, which we will certainly monitor”, he specifies during the press conference called after “three days of reflection”, precise.
Days in which, in addition to asking to view the minutes of the operations at the polling stations, due to “the anomalies found, especially regarding the separate votes”, Costantini decided to continue the electoral campaign until January 2027.
«The idea is to set up a civic movement that will also have bases in Montesilvano and Spoltore, the municipalities involved in the formation of a single large metropolitan reality together with Pescara», he announces. «We don’t want to waste this wealth of energy and enthusiasm, but also of programmatic development that we have put in place and therefore we will move forward in building the Pescara project that we want, continuing to carry out the electoral campaign exactly as we have done up to now . We owe it to all the townspeople we have met and who encourage us to move forward. The instrument will be the movement that we are going to establish”, explains Costantini. «The goal is to broaden our horizon», he adds.
«We take our administrative program and try to shape it to the needs of the other two municipalities involved in the merger, to be ready in two and a half years, when Nuova Pescara is born».
«At the same time», he continues, «we exercise a safeguard function against the risk that the trial will be postponed. Unfortunately, there are rumors circulating about another possible postponement. The movement will also try to prevent a further extension.”
Analyzing the outcome of the local elections of 8 and 9 June, Costantini underlines the need not to repeat the same mistakes. After all, the date of 2027 is not that far away and «the recent defeat also depends on the fact that the center-left coalition moved too late. Two or three months are not enough to obtain the desired results”, says Costantini.
«The construction of the civic movement also starts from this assumption», he specifies. «Electoral campaigns are organized two years in advance if you want to win. If you only want to witness one participation, what we did could be fine. The real problem is not the contribution of individual parties. The point is that such a delicate electoral campaign is prepared in advance and unfortunately we started late.”
When asked about the possibility of channeling all the political forces of the center-left into this new movement, Costantini responds as follows: «It is a civic movement open to participation even by those who are members of a party. I would like to underline that our objective is not to draw a distinctive line between us and the parties, nor to build an alternative to the party system. I intend to promote an alliance system. We must create a new container, which goes beyond the internal logic of the parties and which in some way begins to speak to citizens about concrete things. We need to make a leap in quality”, concludes Carlo Costantini.
