Two new lines of the Cagliari metro. The routes emerge from the update of the General Plan of the surface metro network of the Metropolitan City of Cagliari, the result of the institutional collaboration agreement between the Cirem (Interuniversity Center for Economic Research and Mobility) of the University and the Metropolitan City.

There are two lines. One arrives from the current metro stop of via Vesalio and reaches via Cornalias passing along Monte Claro and the hospital center of via Jenner and the other still starts from via Vesalio and reaches via Norway in Quartu through the Le Vele shopping center and Colombo Avenue.

The first route will be 5.3 km long and includes the passage of the new infrastructure in via Vesalio, via Torricelli and via Chiabrera and the turn in via dei Donoratico up to via dei Valenzani (it will have a stop at the Monte Claro park) and then via Jenner until reaching the three stops of the hospital center (Oncologico, Microcitemico and Brotzu), to continue towards the terminus located in correspondence with the current Abbanoa offices in via Is Cornalias. The construction involves a reduction in the use of the roadway for car use along the entire route including viale Ciusa, via Liguria, via Mattei and via Cadello.

The second stretch measures 8.5 km and is divided into two lots: the first goes from via Vesalio in Cagliari and reaches Quartu through the Quartiere Europeo, Vigili del Fuoco, via delle Serre, Le Vele, via Majorana, viale Marconi stops, via Magellano and viale Colombo. The second lot starts from here and ends its journey in via Norway after passing the stops in via Panzini, via Parigi, via Trieste and via Fiume. The scenario hypothesized by the University envisages one-way traffic for cars (towards Cagliari) along Viale Colombo, while in Via San Benedetto the reduction of the capacity of the road section, going from two lanes to one lane in each direction.

Cirem also proposes a further intervention: closing the ring with the connection from via Is Cornalias to piazza Matteotti, passing via Abruzzi and piazza San Michele.
