Today in Good Morning Kiss Kiss we hosted the mayor of Altamuraamong the most beautiful and spectacular cities in the province of Bari.
Altamura is one of the main tourist destinations in Puglia and the mayor begins by saying “Altamura offers a lot, it offers bread, lentils…”. In fact, the location is renowned throughout the world for its excellent PDO bread and the lentil PGI.
It therefore stands out for its good food, but also offers a rich archaeological heritage. It is no coincidence that the town hit the headlines in the 1990s for the discovery ofMan of Altamurathe fossil remains of Neanderthal man.
Mayor Vitantonio Petronella also highlighted the renovation of some of the city’s main arteries which allow for better walking in the centre. Furthermore, he talked about the beauty of Pulo of Altamurathe most impressive karst sinkhole in Alta Murgia.

- Baldassarre Palace: it is a museum created to narrate the discovery of the Man of Altamura
- National archeologic museum: dedicated to the life of prehistoric men, it houses the reproduction of Neanderthal Man
- Diocesan Museum: located in the Cathedral, it displays medieval and Renaissance finds
- Lamalunga Cave: it is the archaeological site where Neanderthal Man was found
- Cathedral Square: it is in the center of the main street, Corso Federico II di Svevia
Typical dishes and products of Altamura
Anyone lucky enough to admire Altamura cannot help but taste its famous bread, among the tastiest in the world. The product has been DOP since 2003 and is in the running to become UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. It is prepared with re-milled durum wheat semolina from Murgia.
Among the other delicacies to taste there is also the baked breadthe cold waffle, the Apulian focaccia, the orecchiette with turnip tops and more.
