Gargano Mafia: Raduano reconstructs criminal map

Marco Raduano, the former boss serving a life sentence who repented in March, confirmed the map of “who is with whom” in the land of the fourth largest mafia in Italya map drawn for some time by investigators and DDA and not only on the basis of turncoats.

THE ALLIANCES MAP

The Capitanata mafia can be divided into four main areas: Foggia, San Severo, Gargano and Cerignola. Here is the picture that emerges:

The Moretti/Pellegrino/Lanza, the most powerful clan of the “Foggia Society”, have strengthened their historical alliances thanks to the mediation of Rocco Moretti, released from prison due to expiry of terms in April 2016, again under special surveillance from the following June and detained again by October 2017. This clan has consolidated ties with the La Piccirella clan of San Severo, the Gaeta of Orta Nova, the Gallone-Carbone of Trinitapoli and the Romito of Manfredonia, now called the Lombardi/Ricucci/La Torre clan. The latter group maintains business relations with the Raduano clan of Vieste.

The Morettis’ rivals, the Sinesi/Francavilla di San Severo, are linked to the Nardino group and historically close to the Libergolis, now called Libergolis-Miucci. This group has once again become dominant in the Gargano after a period of crisis due to numerous arrests and convictions in the maxi-trial of the Gargano mafia in the early 2000s. The Libergolis-Miucci in Vieste collaborate with the Pema/Iannoli group.

The third Foggia battery, the Trisciuoglio/Tolonese, historically close to the Morettis, has developed synergies with the Romitos of Manfredonia and with elements of the Orta Nova crime group, as reported by Dia in one of its six-monthly reports on the fourth largest mafia in Italy.

NEUTRAL CERIGNOLA

In this panorama of alliances and rivalries, the Cerignola mafia stands out for its neutrality. This criminal group, the richest and least investigated in the last twenty years, has diversified its interests: drug and weapons trafficking, attacks on vaults and armored vehicles, and maxi-thefts in warehouses and companies throughout Italy. The stolen goods are quickly placed with fences in the lower Tavoliere. The Cerignola mafia avoids getting involved in wars between other mafias and maintains business relationships with any clan that has money, following the principle of “pay money, see camel”.

THE ROLE OF REPENTANTS

The District Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA) of Bari is achieving notable investigative and judicial successes, with captures of fugitives, raids, arrests and collaboration with justice. The DDA, with half a dozen prosecutors involved in investigations into the Foggia mafias, has been collecting the revelations of three leading turncoats in the Capitanata criminal scene since the beginning of the year: the Foggia brothers Ciro and Giuseppe Francavilla, top elements of their clan, and the former Vieste boss Marco Raduano. The latter, after killing his former boss Angelo Notarangelo alias “Cintaridd” in January 2015, took his place and confessed to over 10 murders, of which 5/6 were carried out personally.

The testimonies of the repentants are transversal, revealing criminal dynamics in which the interests of the Foggia clans are intertwined with those of the San Severo and Gargano groups. As a prosecutor said, citing the revelations of the Francavilla brothers in the “Game over” trial against 85 drug trafficking defendants, “the best is yet to come”.
