Geasar SpA, the management company of Olbia Costa Smeralda airport, has been recognized as one of the 240 Italian companies “Sustainability Leaders 2024”, according to the survey conducted by Sole 24 Ore and Statista.

This recognition, which positions Geasar as the only company in Sardinia included in the list, adds to the recent confirmation of certification at Level 3 Optimization of ACI Europe’s Airport Carbon Accreditation program, highlighting Geasar’s continued commitment to sustainable practices.

Olbia airport has stood out, in particular, for its commitment in the following key areas of sustainability:

Social Area: Geasar has invested significantly in staff training, with an average of 74 hours of training per employee.
Economic Area: The airport recorded an economic growth of 54% compared to the previous year, with an important direct, indirect and induced impact on the reference territory.
Environmental Area: Geasar, in addition to efforts to reduce emissions, has worked on the implementation of procedures which has led to reaching a waste recycling rate of 82%.
At the international level and in the specific airport sector, Geasar has also obtained confirmation of the Level 3 Optimization certification of the Airport Carbon Accreditation program of ACI Europe (the trade association of European airports), aligning Olbia airport with international best practices in terms of reducing CO2 emissions.

Below are the main planned sustainability initiatives that allowed the certification to be obtained:

Solar Energy: Installation of a photovoltaic system on the shelters of the airport’s car parks, which will satisfy up to 25% of the airport’s energy needs.
Climate Efficiency: Adoption of advanced and low energy consumption air conditioning systems.
Sustainable Mobility: Progressive replacement of internal combustion engine airport vehicles with electric vehicles, thanks to funding from ENAC.
Recycling and Waste Reduction: Increase in the percentage of separated waste.
Emissions Policies: Implementation of company policies to reduce direct and indirect emissions, also thanks to the involvement of employees and stakeholders (airlines, trade associations, local community, etc.).
“This recognition demonstrates the attention and commitment of the Geasar Group towards sustainable development, creating value for the airport community and the territory,” declared Silvio Pippobello, CEO of Geasar. “We are particularly proud to be the only company in Sardinia to be included in this prestigious list, as well as to confirm recognition at Level 3 Optimization of ACI Europe’s Airport Carbon Accreditation programme. These accomplishments would not have been possible without the dedication of our employees and the collaboration of our stakeholders. We will continue to invest in initiatives that improve environmental, social and economic sustainability, strengthening our long-term commitment to a more sustainable future.”
