New intervention for Stefano Tacconi, 67 years old. The former Juventus goalkeeper underwent a five-hour surgery at the Molinette hospital in Turin on Thursday which – the doctors said – was “technically successful with a current good clinical outcome”.

Tacconi underwent endovascular aorto-iliac recanalization surgery and surgical reconstruction of the femoral artery. The operation was necessary “due to a serious picture of arterial ischemia of the right lower limb, due to diffuse femoral iliac aortoarteriopathy (arterial obstruction from aorta to femur)”. A pathology, they point out, not connected to the previous one that had affected the footballer in 2022 while he was in Asti. After the operation, the hospital note concludes, the patient “is awake, lucid and asymptomatic and will now be transferred to hospital intensive care”.

The ordeal

In recent weeks it was Stefano Tacconi himself who announced the operation, without losing optimism and confidence: «Now even if I feel better and can walk again, my ordeal is not over yet. The last visits I made showed blood clots, thrombi, in the legs and in the aorta vein. They have to open me up and sort me out. They promised me that then I will be as good as new.”
