Trieste water polo, striker Sedlmayer signs

TRIESTE A Hungarian talent for the men’s A1 series team of Water Polo Trieste. The halberd formation is strengthened with the addition of Tamas Sedlmayerforward in positions “1” and “2”, who has signed an annual contract with the sponsored company Samer & Co. Shipping.

Hungarian, born in Budapest, 29 years old, Sedlmayer wore the green and white cap of Ferencvaros, the most prestigious Hungarian club, until 2021. He won the Champions League in 2019 (Olympiakos was beaten in the final), the European Super Cup in the same year, two league titles (2018 and 2019) and the Hungarian Cup three times (2018, 2019, 2020). In the 2021/22 season he joined Vasas, where he won the Euro Cup in 2023.

In the last season, however, the new acquisition of Water Polo Trieste played for Spandau Berlin, surprisingly dragged to the Final Four of the Euro Cup. With the Hungarian national team he played in the 2019 World Cup, finishing in fourth place (on that occasion he also had scored a goal in the semi-final lost to Settebello) and the World League in 2019 and 2021.

The new striker of the Trieste team does not hide his satisfaction. These are his first words as a halberd player: «Playing in Italy for me means a dream come true. I am very happy and proud to be at Water Polo Trieste. We are a team undergoing renewal, our goal will be to return to playing European cups starting next year. For my part, I can assure you that I will give my all to help Water Polo Trieste achieve the best possible placing.”

The new coach of the Trieste team, Maurizio Mirarchi, presents the Hungarian talent who has just been hired in this way: «A valuable boy is joining our group. Tamas is very good at sewing the game, he is fast in swimming, he knows how to do the defensive phase well and has a very precise shot. He will also bring a lot of experience accumulated over the course of an enviable career.”

Finally, the opinion of the general director of Water Polo Trieste Andrea Brazzatti on the latest arrival: «Tamas is an athlete of international level. He is a real, technical striker, we are sure that he will not encounter any difficulty in fitting into our group.”

This is the third new face in the ranks of the men’s Water Polo Trieste in this part of the A1 series market.
