Rome, 14 June 2024 – The 29th edition of the prestigious event began with enthusiasm International Olympic wrestling tournament “City of Sassari”, organized by Polisportiva Athlon and FIJLKAM. The event kicked off with a series of challenges in the U20 category, which set the PalaSantoru mats on fire. The young fighters battled, marking the beginning of three days full of emotions.
The Italian delegation did very well and, among the most notable performances, those of Raul Caso, Pasquale Liuzzi and Gabriele Niccolini stand out.
In the 74 kg category, Caso dominated the scene, also clearly imposing himself on his strong Canadian opponent Nick Hooper. In the 61 kg, Italy celebrated a notable victory thanks to Pasquale Liuzzi, who managed to overcome Salvatore Cadoni in an exciting and hard-fought match. In the 81 kg, Gabriele Niccolini faced and won against Antonino Milone, in a match that showcased the excellence of the Italian fighting school.
Furthermore, the victories of Niccolini and Liuzzi were particularly significant since both athletes, thanks to their excellent performances, obtained qualification for the next U20 European Championships.
Tomorrow the spectacle of Olympic wrestling will continue with the Senior category competitions. Numerous international athletes will compete during the day which will begin at 10:00.
