Like any self-respecting competition, Cies has drawn up the usual list of favorites to win the European Championships. Who will succeed Italy? The International Center for Sports Studies becomes the protagonist on the eve of all the events with its predictions, attributing a score to all the national teams present based on the minutes played and the level of the matches played by the players called up. Let’s see the most interesting data collected by this ranking.
Germany the favourite
Leading the bandwagon of the 24 participants, Nagelsmann’s Germany with a score of 82.9; Spain (82.4) and France (82.2) follow closely behind, with England in fourth place with 81.1.
It’s Italy? Spalletti’s Azzurri are in seventh place, with 78.8 points, also overtaken by Portugal (80.4) and Holland (79.2). Three years ago, Italy was sixth. Belgium, Croatia and Denmark close the top ten.
Kvara’s Georgia closes the table, 20 points behind the top Germans, Albania, stuck at 65 and Marco Rossi’s Hungary, with just half a point more than the team against which Italy will debut.
But does Cies catch us?
We went back in time to compare the CIES forecasts. For example, the statistical body gave Brazil the favorite for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, followed by Spain, France and England. Argentina was only seventh, a team that then won in the final against France.
In Serie A however, in the last three seasons there was only one prediction for Cies: Inter champions of Italy. As we well know, it only happened once, this year. In the Scudetto year, Napoli were given third place, while in 2021-22, Milan were second.
