Nutella Ice Cream arrives in Naples: it is a challenge to artisanal ice cream – Wine&Thecity

The launch of the new Nutella Ice Cream, which will be presented in Naples in Piazza Municipio on 15 and 16 June, challenges the city’s ancient ice cream tradition.

Ferrero has launched its Nutella Ice Cream, a summer novelty that promises to offer the unmistakable Nutella experience in the form of a creamy hazelnut ice cream. Having arrived on the shelves of some stores already at the beginning of June, the Piedmontese group has decided to present its new product in Piazza Municipio in Naples, on the weekend of 15 and 16 June. The company thus aims to win the hearts of Neapolitan consumers. Will he succeed?

Naples boasts a rich ice cream tradition, with historic brands that have been able to maintain craftsmanship and quality over the years, challenging a market saturated with industrial proposals. Let’s think of Soave al Vomero, which has enchanted generations of Neapolitans since 1950 with its genuine and sweet traditional products, or Bilancione in Posillipo, where ice cream is an art that has been handed down from father to son since 1977. It is impossible not to mention Mennella and Gay-Odin, who compete for the most greedy palates with identifying tastes. Mennella Rock and Foresta, just to name the best known, certainly do not fear the giant Ferrero. For over 50 years, Mennella has been creating its own flavors with discipline, passion and top quality, 100% natural ingredients. Gay-Odin master chocolatiers for over a century, has made its iconic product, the Forest, a unique ice cream.

Examples of excellence that offer not just a product, but an experience, a link with the history and culture of the Neapolitan territory. Treasures to be valorised especially in a globalized era like the current one, where local realities are often threatened by large giants (including Starbucks, recently opened in the Campania capital).

Nutella Ice Cream is made in the Alzira plant in Valencia, Spain, through the setting up of a line characterized by innovative systems and a high degree of automation and technology. If it is true that the company carefully selects the ingredients to guarantee the typical taste and quality of Nutella, can a commercial idea compete with the history and tradition of Naples? Time will tell!
