Marco Olzi, twenty-eight years old, was the biggest surprise for the Brothers of Italy group itself, which nominated him for the administrative elections. This is because his figure remained rather muted during the electoral campaign and also because until now his active participation in political life has always been rather low-key.
A surprise, it was said, not because the group did not consider him up to the task, as it was the Fratelli d’Italia secretariat that proposed his candidacy, but because of the very large number of personal preferences that Olzi brought home. In fact, there were 265, only two less than the ‘veteran’ Chiara Capelletti, who held important roles in the ranks of the Cremonese centre-right and who personally carried out the electoral campaign and the ‘battle’ against the centre-left. Olzi, on the other hand, did not expose himself significantly in the media, but still managed to intercept the preferences of a large number of voters.
So how do you explain his exploits in this election cycle? We ask the person directly involved to tell us: “I am a new face in Cremonese politics, but this does not mean that my figure is improvised – explains Olzi– The secretariat of Fratelli d’Italia mentioned my name on the basis of a clear personal experience of both politics and academic training”. In fact, in his early twenties Olzi took an active part in politics in 2016, starting in the ranks of the Pieve San Giacomo municipal council, expressing a passion for administrative life that has characterized him since he was a boy. He then based his university and career choices on this: “I graduated in Trento in International Studies and then in Pavia in Government and Public Policies, to conclude with a second level master’s degree at Bocconi in Healthcare Management. Today I work as assistant to the regional councilor Marcello Ventura.“
Regarding the electoral campaign, Olzi comments: “A challenging but fascinating experience which gave me the opportunity to meet many people, being able to delve deeper into the real needs of citizens and formulate concrete proposals that can relaunch our city. I address a sincere feeling of gratitude to the voters who supported me. Thank you I especially address it to my political community who trusted and supported me throughout the period of this intense electoral campaign, as well as to President Ventura for offering me the opportunity to stand as a candidate.”
