Genoa – Spediporto reiterates its no to congestion surcharge and the general director Giampaolo Botta raises the alarm: “The surcharge requested by road haulage is just a way to penalize and remove goods from Genoa and those who, like shippers, pay a very high daily bill for the shortcomings of the system”.

Botta’s reflection starts from the data that is emerging in these hours: “We have received news from Milan of companies that are organizing intermodal services in the port of La Spezia to avoid this surcharge. The damage that would be caused to the entire port of Genoa is therefore evident; without forgetting that it is then up to the freight forwarders to deal with the competition and international markets”.

Botta then goes into detail underlining how “the port of Genoa does not suffer from a situation of daily congestion. Problems of this type occurred only on some days of the week and on specific terminals for some arriving ships. It’s unfairso apply a surcharge that does not rely on certified situations of congestion or difficulty”.

Spediporto also sends the comparison back to the sender, made by the road haulage acronyms, with maritime freight rates: “The comparison with freight rates does not hold up.
