Pesaro 2024 starts tomorrow: the complete program

It will start tomorrow June 14th International Exhibition of New Cinema which will be held in Pesaro until 22 June 2024 with the contribution of the Ministry of Culture – Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual, the Municipality of Pesaro and the Marche Region.

To celebrate the important milestone of the 60 editions and in the context of the cultural events that see Pesaro as a protagonist in Italy and in the world as Italian Capital of Culture 2024, the Festival directed by Pedro Armocida has chosen, as already announced, to enrich the schedule with an extra daybringing forward the start of the event to Friday 14 June.

The festival will be inaugurated in the large arena of Piazza del Popolo Sergio Castellittowith a tribute on the twentieth anniversary of one of his most successful films, Do not movethe first appointment of the Cinema in Piazza section, possible thanks to CSC – Cineteca Nazionale, Cattleya and Medusa.

The special event on Italian cinema continues with a double moment: one dedicated to Ficarra and Piconepresent in the Square on Sunday 16 June to meet the public and present Daylight saving timeand one to Franco Maresco. In collaboration with the Fondazione Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia – Cineteca Nazionale and thanks to Medusa Film and Tramp Ltd., from Friday 14th to Sunday 16th June all the films directed by Ficarra and Picone will be presented. Following is a selection, with the collaboration of Ila Palma and Dream Film, of those that Franco Maresco made outside of the couple with Daniele Ciprì. In addition to the retrospective, the exhibition will host a round table in the presence of the authors with the presentation of the two monographic volumes of Marsilio’s Nuovocinema series.

Competition

From Monday 17 June the Festival will get to the heart of the show with the international competition which, always devoted to the search for ‘new’ cinema, is open to all formats and all directors, without barriers of age, duration or format. The competition, as a pioneer in the discovery of new languages ​​and the most innovative forms of filmmaking, will be judged by three juries, one made up of students only, another professional with internationally renowned personalities of the caliber of Júlio Bressane, Myriam Mézières and Luís Miñarro, and finally the jury of the new SNCCI Italian Critics Award composed of Emanuele Di Nicola, Arianna Vietina and Sarah Van Put, critics of the National Union of Italian Critics within the protocol signed with the Association of Italian Film Festivals.

After Castellitto and Ficarra and Picone, the cinema section in Piazza hosts one of the most applauded protagonists of contemporary Italian cinema. Jasmine Trinca will be at the exhibition on Monday 17 June to present a national preview Maria Montessori – The nouvelle femme – directed by Léa Todorov and in Italian cinemas on 26 September with Wanted – the film in which she plays the role of the pedagogue of Marche origins. On Tuesday 18 June the Piazza will be all for Valentina Lodoviniguest for the first time at the exhibition which pays homage to Carlo Mazzacurati on the tenth anniversary of his death with the viewing of one of his most significant films, The right distancewith Valentina Lodovini a fascinating protagonist.

Always attentive to every form and genre of cinema, the Festival also has a section dedicated to children and, in its 60th edition, it also turns the spotlight on one of the greatest exponents of Italian animated cinema. Enzo D’Alò he will be in the Square on Thursday 20 June with his latest, much appreciated, work Mary and the Midnight Spirit, enriched by a behind-the-scenes look at the film which has fascinated adults and children alike.

Expected guest for the closing of the festival, Saturday 22 June, will be Luca Guadagnino, to receive the special prize for the 60th edition and for Pesaro as Italian Capital of Culture 2024. The recognition arises from the festival’s desire to reward the most international Italian director and most linked to the idea of ​​”new cinema”. The Pesaro Nuovo Cinema Award will be accompanied by a monograph, the first in the world dedicated to Luca Guadagnino, published in Marsilio’s Nuovocinema series and by the closing screening of the festival of Challengers with Mike Faist, Zendaya and Josh O’Connor.
