FLORENCE DANCE FESTIVAL
At the center of “Florence Dance Festival”scheduled from June 20th to July 23rd in the wonderful Great Cloister of Santa Maria Novellathe exploration of the world of dance. “I love Dance” is the motto of the event, organized by Florence Dance Festival Cultural Association under the artistic direction of the founders Marga Native And Keith Ferronein its 35th edition, and which involves exceptional companies from Italy and the world.
The event was opened by 20 And June 21st at 9.30pm the hyperrealism of Peeping Tom, from Belgium, the award-winning contemporary dance theater company of Gabriela Carrizo and Franck Chartier which presents “Diptych – The Missing Door & The Lost Room”While Sunday 23rd at 9.00 pm appointment with “Life & Dance” the show by the teachers and students of the Florence Dance Center with the artistic direction of Marga Nativo.
On Wednesday 26th at 9.30pm it is the turn of the Northern Irish choreographer Oona Doherty with her company Od Works who presents the masterpiece, “Navy Blue” inspired by Carl Sagan’s Pale Blu Dot.
Thursday 27 June at 9.30pm Florence Dance Platform in collaboration with Dance Art Culture, Accademia Europea di Firenze and Elon University USA, while Wednesday 3 July comes the ascendant Compagnie Linga, Switzerland, led by the artists Katarzyna Gdaniec (Poland) and the Italian Marco Cantalupo who will present “Sema” accompanied by live electronic music by Mathias Delplanque and percussion by Philippe Foch.
Monday 8 July always at 9.30pm the Mystes Dance Company, led by Gigi Nieddu will present “Boredom” and on the same evening Pietro Pireddu’s new choreographic formation will also perform on stage “Tottenham” with the extraordinary participation of drummer Stefano Tamborrino. The new production of the 2024 Festival arrives on the 10th, “Bohemian”signed by Marga Nativo, which pays homage to the centenary of the death of Giacomo Puccini with original music composed by Francesco Giubasso.
From the Italian scene, the fascinating Anbeta Toromani with the good partners Alessandro Macario and Amilcar Moret Gonzalez and the choreography of Massimo Moricone accompanied by the piano of Sofia Vasheruk in “Preludes … dances on the piano” (Friday 12 July) e Michele Merola’s MM Contemporary Dance Company, with the absolute novelty of Maguy Marin “Gross Fuge & Duo D’Eden” beyond “Elegy” by Enrico Morelli (Thursday 18 July)
Saturday 13 July at 9.30pm “Style and Culture in Dance” of Taipei Senior Zhong Zheng Senior High School Taiwan and Kinesis CDC2 Florence While Tuesday 16 Julyalways at 9.30pm Kinesis CDC with direction and choreography by Angelo Egarese, will present the new production “Pandora”.
Saturday 20 July, at 9.30 pm Dance Atlantic USA with choreographies by Alessandro Sousa Pereira and Itzik Galili for the Boston Ballet Theater as well as the New York duo Baye & Asa in “Delicate Blue” “If as if” And “Suck it up.”
Closing with an event not to be missed with the welcome return of Lewis Major Projects (Australia) with choreography by the Englishman Russell Maliphant on 23 July at 9.30pm
To complete the programming of the Florence Dance Performing Arts Festival, the educational commitment of the Florence Dance Platform, the concerts of the Fiorentina Chamber Orchestra, Fabbrica Europa per Festival au Dèsert, and an important evening of Elisabetta Sgarbi’s Milanesiana, in collaboration with the Meyer Foundation.
